Manage new audio and video call privacy on X
On February 29, X, previously known as Twitter, announced the rollout of audio and video calls for all platform users, including those who are not verified or paying. This new feature enables users to start calls without requiring a phone number, representing a major expansion of X’s offerings.
The official @XNews account shared this exciting update, which aligns with platform owner Elon Musk’s previous commitment to introducing audio and video calls. Musk aims to turn X into an “everything app,” providing various features, including AI-powered virtual assistance and job hiring.
Go to the Direct Messages (DMs) tab.
Select the person you want to call and check if they are eligible for calls.
Tap the phone icon at the top right of the screen to start an audio or video call.
Keep in mind that some users may need to exchange messages first before making their first call due to individual permissions.
Certain X users raised concerns about the default call privacy settings, which could potentially reveal their IP addresses and locations to others. To resolve this matter, users can adjust their call privacy settings as outlined below:
To manage your audio and video call privacy settings on the X app, follow these steps:
- Open the X app on your device.
- Click on your profile icon at the top left corner to access the sidebar menu.
- Scroll down and select “Settings & Support.”
- Choose the “Settings and Privacy” option.
- Navigate to the “Privacy and safety” setting.
- Tap on the “Direct Messages” tab to access call settings.
- Scroll down to find the audio and video call settings.
- Toggle the switch to turn off call reception entirely if desired.
- Alternatively, customize call reception by selecting specific groups of people.
- For enhanced privacy, enable the “Enhanced call privacy” switch to conceal your IP address.
By following these steps, X users can take control of their audio and video call privacy settings, ensuring a safer and more secure communication experience on the platform.
